Protective Services

Policing is provided by R.C.M.P. personnel from the Moosomin detachment. The Rocanville Fire Department includes several  fire trucks, a medically equipped rescue unit/command center vehicle complete with Jaws of Life, and a 22-member volunteer fire brigade. Of those members, three are First Responders. Our community also has a Block Parent Association - contact Kim Gulka at 645-4475..

Medical

Rocanville's Medical Centre was built on Ellice Street in 1999. Doctors from the Moosomin Family Practice Centre attend to patients full days on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  Please call 645-4211.

The Public Health Nurse has a clinic in the Centre twice a month and the local Home Care Nurse has an office in the building as well.   Dental services are also available by calling 645-2678.

Education

Rocanville School is a K-12 school. Grades 7-12 are on the semester system. As well as the basic programs, specific programs are offered in such areas as special education, driver education, work experience, communication production technology, information processing, band, drama, career guidance and swimming. Students are bussed to Moosomin for Home Economics and Iindustrial Arts.

Rocanville School

Each year Rocanville students have been chosen from the local science fair to participate in the Regional Science Fair in Saskatoon where they have traditionally received a number of awards. Many times these awards have included a trip to the Canada Wide Science Fair where they have also won prizes.

The intramural program offered to students in grades 7-12 is regarded as a model in that the percentage of participation in both junior and senior sports is unusually high. This is in addition to a variety of school teams that prove themselves competitive against teams from other schools in the division. Graduates of Rocanville School have also proven their academic and extracurricular strength by winning a great number of scholarships in a variety of competitions.

Through technological advances, adults in the community have access to first year university courses, business courses and high school upgrading. Classes can be obtained on-line, through home study or through televised satellite transmission to Rocanville School .  This allows the adult learner to continue to care for a family and to work in the community, while gaining future education.

The school can be contacted at 645-2838 or by emailing the Principal at brennan.merkosky@cornerstonesd.ca

Our community also has a playschool geared for children aged 3 and 4 and operated by a volunteer board of parents.  The President is Chyvonne Kurbis at 645-4507.

Special Services

The Home Care program in our area provides nursing, meals and home maintenance to clients depending on their individual needs. This program allows many seniors to remain comfortably in their own homes. Rocanville also has two senior citizens complexes together providing 31 units. While both Lodges have a common lounge, Lodge #2 has a large kitchen and dining room, a larger sitting area, a crafts room and a whirlpool tub. It is in these larger areas of Lodge #2 that the adult day care program is held twice a week and the wellness clinic once a month. An activities director organizes programs for interested seniors. A “home-cooked meal” is prepared and served once a week.

Rocanville Lodge

Rocanville Housing Authority assists in providing moderately priced homes for the citizens of Rocanville. Senior housing includes housing that operate on an income-based rent. Transportation and Communication

Rocanville is served by Highway # 8. There is a fully lighted airstrip at the Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan mine site (permission is required). The nearest commercial airports are located at Yorkton , Brandon and Regina . There is Puolator and DHL courier services and several trucking firms delivering goods to Rocanville. Two newspapers published elsewhere but received locally serve our community. The Regina Leader Post is delivered daily through the home carrier system and The Moosomin World Spectator is distributed weekly. The community also prints a monthly newsletter that is sent to residents of Rocanville and District free of charge(900 copies). For a PDF format of the Rocanville and District Community Calendar, check out our "What's New" section of the webpage!  There is free Internet service available at the local library.

Thrift Store

The Rocanville Community Thrift Store was organized in 1996 and has adopted the motto "Unity in the Community". Open three afternoons each week, the store is run by volunteer workers, and depends upon the generous donations of clothing and household goods from the town and surrounding area. All money realized is returned to the community; to education, sports and recreation, medical equipment, culture and heritage and also personal donations in cases of fire or illness. That the Thrift Store has been and continues to be so successful is due to the combined effort of the entire community.
